Open Board Meeting and Party at the new Fenstermaker Barn

The next MRA board meeting/party is Friday, July 22, 7:00 pm at Ryan and Katie’s new barn, 4124 Old Cleveland Road, South Bend 46628.

If you don’t have a GPS or can’t figure out directions, get on Nimtz Parkway and follow the signs to the South Bend Organic Resource Facility (they don’t live there but it is really close).

Bring a dish to pass and your beverage of choice if you would rather have something other than beer.  The MRA will pick up the brats, dogs, keg, and soft drinks.  All are welcome.

3rd Annual Race Directors Summit

The 3rd Annual Race Directors Summit is scheduled for Wednesday, July 13, 6:30 pm in the back meeting room at Polito’s Pizzeria Restaurant, 401 Hickory Rd., South Bend.

All local race directors and assistant race directors are strongly encouraged to attend.

The main goal of the summit is to help you improve your race by sharing best practices as well as information about timers, dates, volunteers, suppliers, courses, etc.

Pizza and soft drinks will be provided by the MRA. Email the MRA at information@michianarunners.org to confirm your spot.

Two Races – One Great Weekend!

Anyone wanting to “double their running pleasure” this weekend can join Pam & me at the Ox Bow race on Friday, 7:00 pm in Goshen (please see MRA Calendar for details) and then turn around and race the TA TA (cure for cancer) in Plymouth Saturday, 9:00 am (please see MRA Calendar for details). Don’t want to drive to Plymouth? You could do the Summerfest Race in Mishawaka 8:00 am Sat. (please see MRA Calendar for details). Hope to see some of our MRA colleagues this weekend. 5K Fridays!

Looking for a great way to kick off your weekends this summer?

How about running a 5K race every Friday for 8-weeks starting Friday, June 17th through Friday, August 5th.

Your runs are timed and tracked by your bib number and at the end of the
8-weeks prizes are given to most improved, most attended, fastest, and other fun categories.

All races begin at 6a.m. at Memorial Health & Lifestyle Center (Downtown on the corner of Main & Jefferson).

The cost is just $20 members/$30 non-member (note: Non-Members may use the locker rooms).

MRA Running Program for Children

MRA will be conducting a FREE running program for elementary aged children this summer.

Join us for an Information Session at Harris Branch Library (Meeting Room A) in Granger on Tuesday, May 31st at 6:30pm.

The program begins June 13 and runs through August 6th, ending with Logan’s Run. All participants in the program will receive a special discounted rate for Logan’s Run and other local races throughout the summer.

The group will meet Monday-Friday 8-9 a.m. at Prairie Vista School. Attendance isn’t mandatory, so come when it works for your schedule.

Children must become members of MRA ($10) to participate or their entire family can join for $25.

Upcoming Circuit Races

The 6th Annual Granger Paths 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Family Run/Walk is a benefit to raise funds for the first phase of the path system from Mary Frank and Northpoint schools to the Library. Construction is due to begin in 2012. Come out and show your support for the project and your community. There will be great door prizes, neighbors to meet, and good music. Multi-use paths will allow you and your family to safely walk, run, and bike throughout your community. They will connect public facilities such as schools, the library, ball fields, and shopping areas to allow for a more intimate connection between neighborhoods and raise property values.

On Saturday, May 28 at 8:00 am, the Two Rivers Meet 5k, 10k, 15k, Kids Fun Run, and new Walkathon will be held in downtown Elkhart at Civic Plaza, 300 S. Main at High Street. Courses go along the river and through small parks. 10K and 15K adds a section through an established neighborhood lined with large trees and beautiful homes. Finish in Central park. Ample parking right by the start/finish line. The new walkathon course goes around Central Park. Participants will never be far from refreshments, facilities or upbeat music. The Race benefits Lifeline camping programs.

On Saturday, June 4, northern Indiana’s largest race, the Sunburst, will be held in South Bend. The race starts at the College Football Hall of Fame and finishes on the 50 yard line of Notre Dame Stadium.

A 1/2 Marathon Sunburst training run is being organized by some MRA members on Saturday, May 21 at 7:30 am on the actual 1/2 course. Meet at the CFHOF and finish at ND. Trivia Night, Wednesday May 4

Prove that runners are smarter than couch potatoes at 7:45 pm, Wednesday, May 4 at Join Ryan Friesen (proudly wearing his navy blue MRA tech shirt) and the MRA trivia team at Between the Buns, 1803 South Bend Ave. in South Bend.

The only running that is allowed is around the bar after we win! Live table-vs-table trivia, true/false and multiple choice on movies, TV, sports, music, history, geography, literature, current events, cartoons, and more.

Trivia is free to play with a $2 minimum purchase.

Ryan Friesen, MRA Social Event Coordinator, has a table reserved. If you are coming alone or with someone else, join Ryan at the MRA table. If you are coming with 3 or more people, call in so we can add another table.

Susan G. Komen Circuit Race

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.

The 3rd Annual Susan G Komen Northern Indiana Race for the Cure is this Saturday, April 30, 9:00 am, at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend.

Early bird discounts and online registration ends Wednesday April 27th at midnight. Volunteers are still needed.
