Race Circuit
Updated 2010 MRA Race Circuit information!
The MRA Race Circuit consists of a series of races where MRA members
accumulate points for participating, placing, and volunteering. Based on our point system,
all runners--elite, middle, and back of the packers--have a chance to win awards at our year-end celebration.
The goals of the Circuit are to promote the benefits of running, to increase race participation and volunteerism,
and to unite the Michiana running community.
14 Races will make up the Circuit in 2010: Komen Race for the Cure, Granger Paths, Two Rivers Meet, Sunburst, Spud Run,
Night Moves, Steve's Run, Logan's Run, Blueberry Stomp, Salmon Chase, Fall Frolic, Bethel Pilots 5K, Niles Thanksgiving Day Run, and
St. Nick's Six. Seven of the races will be scored based on the details below: Granger Paths, Sunburst, Night Moves, Logans, Blueberry, Salmon
Chase, and Niles Thanksgiving Day Run. For the remaining races, a flat 25 participation points will be awarded for running or volunteering at the race.
Points will be awarded as a percentile of the runner's place in their age group.
Age groups will be in increments of 10 (20-29, 30-39, etc). The 19 and under age group will be separated into 14 and under and 15 - 19.
Each runner's finishing percent in their age group and will be calculated then ranked among all Circuit runners from lowest to highest and
points will be awarded accordingly. Males and females will be scored separately. The MRA reserves the right
to combine them if there are not enough participants. Age group winners (MRA age groups, not the race age groups) will receive the
maximum number of points so there may be more than one person receiving 100 points for a particular race.
For example a 25 year old finishes 7 out of 42, a 36 year old finishes 12 out of 18, and a 54 year old finishes 3 out of 10.
The 25 year old would be a 16.67%, 36 year old would be a 66.67% and the 54 year old would be a 30.0%.
If these were the only 3 competitors, then the 25 year old would currently be in 1st, the 54 year old 2nd, and the 36 year old 3rd place.
This allows us to combine all runners into a single competition. Other information:
- The top 10 point scorers will receive 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 45, 40, 35, 30 respectively with every participant below 10th
receiving 25 pts each for finishing
- 50 points for will be awarded for volunteering for one race, 25 points for any races thereafter. Volunteers must inform the MRA
and work with the Race Director. Race directors will provide the MRA with the volunteer list.
- Bonus Point Opportunities: 50 Points for Running or Volunteering at 7 or more of the race circuit races. In addition, another 25 points
will be awarded for participating in the Run with a Purpose event to take place in the fall.
- Every Runner must sign in at the MRA table that we will have at all 14 races or they must email us their race/finishing time
24 hours after the race to guarantee that the member will be scored in that race. We will no longer hunt for our members among all
of the results to find out who participated.
- can enter at any time but no retroactive points
- must be an MRA member
- Final Awards will remain the same with prizes being awarded for the Top 5 overall, Volunteer of the Year, and Golden Shoe Awards to
be handed out at the Year End/Kickoff Event that takes place each January at Metro Run and Walk
- these rules are subject to change based on a vote of the officers
The MRA would like to thank Metro Run & Walk in Mishawaka for sponsoring the 2010 Circuit.
We are lucky to have such a quality store run by such quality people.
