Keeping Runners Cool

runner sweatingRunning during the summer, whether to stay in shape or to prepare for a marathon, poses unique challenges. You have to get up early to “beat the heat”, which can mean setting out when it is still a little dark. What happens if you oversleep but still need to stay in shape? Or if you want to run long distances? How do you keep cool so that you do not risk having a heat stroke or other issues? Keeping runners cool is a problem that not just one company can do. Therefore, there are many products available that may help.

Tips on Staying Cool

dehydrationRunning is a sport that can make you sweat even during the cooler winter months. During the summer, it can be brutal. How do you combat it so that you can keep doing what you love? There are actually several things you can, and should, do. For instance:

  • Wear Sunblock
  • Stay Hydrated!
  • Wear Sunglasses
  • Cover Your Head
  • Wear Light Clothing
  • Take Time to Cool Down (Stretches)
  • Start Well Rested

Beyond this stuff, understand that there are times that it may simply be too hot for a run. In this situation, you must consider exercising indoors. It will be just as effective and protect you from being too hot.

Hydration is Key!

staying coolNo matter which things you do to try and stay cool, hydration during the summer will be vital. It is important for everyone to consider when the temperature soars, but it is even more important to a runner. Not having enough water in your system can lead to cramping and a long list of other issues as well. You may feel dizzy, have headaches, feel sleepy, and much more.

This is why many runners will have someone riding along beside them in a vehicle and in that vehicle there will be several bottles of water. Some may also have a 12V ice maker inside to ensure that drinks can always be cool and refreshing. As long as the runner is content to sip while they are hot, they do not risk furthering their issues by drinking too much cold stuff too quickly.

These ice makers are portable, which means that they can also work well at marathons and other events where ice may be in limited supply. Could you imagine having an ice maker in your vehicle?
